DARPA Picosat
7 and 8 (aka MEPSI-2), 2000-042C
- A tethered set of picosatellites within the MEPSI programme, built by the
Aerospace Corp and funded by ARPA and UCLA
weighting just 0.25kg each and measuring 100x750x250mm each. They were launched from the
MightySAT-II.1 minisatellite on the
7th September 2001 into a 511x539km orbit inclined at 97.8deg, which
itself was launched in 2000.

- REFLECTOR was launched with the METEOR-3M-N1 meteorological satellite on a Zenit launcher
from Baikonur Kosmodrome on the 10th December 2001, into a 996x1050km sun-synchronous
orbit inclined at 99.7degrees. Other piggyback payloads on the same launch
include Tubsat-C, Kompass and Reflector. The spacecraft was built by the NII
KP in Russia as a joint experiment with the US Air Force investigating space
debris. The spacecraft looks like a passive radar reflector corner cube with
four fins, and
weighs 6kg. It is 1.5m long and 0.5m diameter and also carries a set of
