Cosmos
1909-1914, 1988-002A-F
- A multiple launch of an Tsyklon from Plesetsk Cosmodrome on the the 15th January 1988
put six spacecraft into a 1415km orbit inclined at 82.6 degrees, The spacecraft form part
of the military constellation for the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense (MO RF). The
spacecraft use the STRELA-3 bus, weigh 231kg each and are designed for a five year
lifetime by NPO Applied Mechanics (NPO Prikladnoi Mekhaniki of Krasnoyarsk, Russia). The
spacecraft will provide military services of data transfer and photo reconnoissance in the
Locsyst communications system.
San Marco-D,
1988-026A
- San Marco-D, an Italian 236kg mini-satellite was launched on the 25th March 1988on a
Scout from the San Marco platform, into a 263x615km orbit inclined at 3 degrees. The
spacecraft was employed in upper atmosphere investigations. It decayed on the 6th December
1988.
AO-13 (Phase 3C), 1988
051B
- An AMSAT 139kg mini-satellite, launched on the 15th June 1988 11:19:01 GMT on ARIANE V22
with METEOSAT-3 and PANAMSAT-1 into GTO (240x35768km, 7deg) and finally into a 2314x
35768km at 57.4 degrees orbit using an orbit adjust unit with 1465m/s capacity. The
satellite supported amateur satellite communications, with S-band, UHF and VHF downlinks,
and L-band and VHF receivers. The RUDAK digital regenerative communications payload never
worked in orbit, and the UHF downlink failed after 5 years, however when it burned up into
the atmosphere on the 5th December 1996, the spacecraft was otherwise still largely
operational.
NOVA 3, 1988
052A
- Launched on the 16th June 1988 on a Scout launcher from WSMC. The 174kg spacecraft was
placed into a 1150x1199km orbit inclined at 90 degree, and is employed for navigation
purposes.
SRS2 (Rohini)
- Launch failure on the 13th July 1988 of the ASLV rocket from Sriharikota, Bengal Bay.
The 150kg spacecraft carried a German/Indian Monocular Electro-Optical Stereo Scanner.
OFEQ-1, 1988-087A
- OFEQ-1 (Horizon-1) was launched on the 19th September 1988 on the first Shavit launch
from Yavne in Israel. The 155kg spacecraft was ploaced into a 250x1150km orbit inclined at
142.9deg. It was possibly a precursor to subsequent surveillance misions in the same
series.
